This motif is a perennial favourite of mine, I love the transparent quality of this plant.
My version of this perennial favourite on this “Gourd” shape, an adaptation of the “Double Gourd” Chinese vase.
The Gourd comes from a traditional Chinese ‘Double Gourd’ shape. The reason why they are round instead of the flattened oval like the Twist vases, is that the models were turned on a lathe.
The painting technique is a combination of colour washes, resist, and black outline. With these vases I use ‘vine’ like plants such as Honesty and Chillies that complement their shape.
