Who doesn’t like Poppies? Here I’ve simplified the design to harmonise with the shape of this vase.
The Gourd comes from a traditional Chinese ‘Double Gourd’ shape. The reason why they are round instead of the flattened oval like the Twist vases, is that the models were turned on a lathe.
The painting technique here is a combination of colour washes and wax resist.
