As with all my ceramics my Twist vases are slip cast. The original carved shape or model from which these vases are cast are similar to the Cone vases in that they are made to look like a twisted piece of paper. The shape is then flattened to give a more dramatic twist. This gives me an ideal canvas for my plant studies, where I can use layers of colour washes and resist, with the black outlines added at the end.

I have no particular theme to the choices of my imagery except to say that if a “weed is a plant in the wrong place” my vases are a home to them.

There are 2 sizes in this range, the tall ones which are 48cms tall and the smaller ones at 22cms tall.

Santa Chiara cloisters Naples. On my holidays at the moment and visited this remarkable example of Maiolica ceramics. The pillars would have acted as supports for pergolas for climbing plants. It reminds me of the joy and colour of Maiolica. #maiolica #sussexguild #ryeartists #cloisters #handpainted
